Betty Virginia Mattice

Betty Virginia Mattice passed comfortably on Mother’s Day, May 13, 2018. Betty was born on March 31, 1923 at the Women’s Hospital in Detroit, to the late John Britton Hart and Margaret Elizabeth (Adamson) Hart.
Betty, of Warren and Shelby Township, is survived by her sons, Michael (Nancy), Patrick (Rosemary), and five Grandchildren; Nathan, Graham, Palmer, Madeline, and Christopher Mattice.
Betty joined the United States Navy in 1944, as a WAVE, and was honorably discharged in 1946. She is enshrined, along with other women of military service, at the Women in Military Service for America Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. Betty retired from Henry Ford Hospital Health Systems, in Detroit, more than 30 yrs ago, where she worked as a clinical secretary within the Dept of Gastroenterology. She was also very active in the building of Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church in Warren, Boy Scouting and the Washington Township Quilt Club where she quilted hundreds of baby blankets that were donated to newborns in area Hospitals.
Visitation at Sawyer-Fuller Funeral Home 2125 Twelve Mile Road in Berkley, (two blocks west of Woodward Avenue), Saturday, May 19th from 9 am until time of service at 11 am.
Interment, with a Military Honor Guard, will be at Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to Leader Dogs For The Blind.
