Obituary for Jessie Ann Soper

Jessie Ann (Bamford) Soper, 96, of Dearborn (formerly Royal Oak), passed away Monday, March 12, 2018 at Henry Ford Village, Dearborn. She was born in Detroit on November 6, 1921 to the late George and Evelyn Bamford (nee Wrighton).
Jessie, known as Nana to family and many friends, grew up in Detroit, graduating from Detroit Central High School and over the years attended Henry Ford Community College. She worked in retailing at her father’s bakery in Detroit and then in accounting at Sears. She married Norman Soper in January of 1946 after he returned from service in the US Army in Europe and was reemployed by Ford Motor Company.
She lived in Dearborn and São Paulo, Brazil with Norm and her three children (Ken, Ruth & Lois), then Commerce Township and Royal Oak until Norm’s death in 2007. She was known for her quiet but steadfast faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, and seeing all of life as her “opportunities” to learn, highly valuing both formal and informal education, witness and serve. She had an adventuresome spirit, traveling throughout Michigan, the US, several Caribbean islands, Canada and to Great Britain with her husband, and living in São Paulo, Brazil for seven years.
She was generous with her time and resources to family and friends throughout her life, volunteering with her church families (including helping found Calvary International Church in São Paulo), schools, cancer recovery patients, Huron Forest Camp Cherith/CedarRidge (Oscoda Township), and supporting education for several young people who were not family.
After she and Norm moved to Royal Oak, they both enjoyed the generous, loving care from her daughter, Ruth (a nurse), and her husband, Bob, and their children who live nearby. During the last decade, she also had the companionship of one of Norm’s and her close friends, Frank Atwood.
Loving wife of the late Norman Eugene Soper. Beloved mother of Kenneth George (Gail) Soper, Ruth Ann (Robert) Dein, Lois Ann (the late Jim) Roelse. Proud grandmother of Heather Dein Nylin (Matthew), Robert Norman Dein (Sara), Sarah Soper Finkbeiner (Josh), Holly Dein Sinta (Keith), Emily Dein (Andrew Gravlin), Andrew Soper and Ruth Noel Roelse. Caring great grandmother of Jillian Grace Dein, Nathan Edward Dein, Kellie Rebekah Nylin, Natalie Deborah Nylin, Rachel Kimberly Nylin, Hannah Marie Nylin, Patrick Ryan Sinta, Grace Noel Sinta, Collin Murphy Sinta, Ada Margaret Finkbeiner, Neil Jacob Finkbeiner and, Caleb Edward Dein. Dear sister of Ruth Elizabeth Bamford, Evelyn Lois (the late Will) Yungton, the late Beatrice (John) Stucky, and George Bamford. She will be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbors and friends.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, March 24, 2018 from 9:00 AM until the time of the Funeral Service 11:00 AM with Pastor Gordon Ainsworth officiating at Sawyer Fuller Funeral Home 2125 12 Mile Rd. Berkley.
