Obituary for Pat James LaBarbera

Pat James LaBarbera passed away peacefully at home on July 23 at the age of 87. He was born July 10, 1931 in Niagara Falls, New York to Vincent and Mary LaBarbera.

Pat grew up in Niagara Falls and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1949. He then attended Niagara University. He left at the age of 19 to enlist. Pat was a member of the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany for a time. He received the Army of Occupation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal for his honorable service. After the Army, he worked in data processing during the early days of computers eventually rising to Vice President. He started his own software development company from which he retired in 2001. He also was a member of the Royal Oak Elks.

The patriarch of the family, Pat often said his most important legacy was his six children and fourteen grandchildren. He had many passions in life. He was an avid golfer, reader, writer, bridge player and student of philosophy. Pat was a loving father and grandfather and an accomplished athlete, artist and businessman. He was an inspiration to all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his children, Patricia May (Todd), Lynn Colegrove (Mike), Peter LaBarbera (Cristina), Kathy Broderick (Tim), Mary Cremean (Steve) and James LaBarbera; and grandchildren (Joseph, Natalie, Brittany, Paul, Elena, Nora, Rachel, Ethan, Lydia, John, Caleb, Nicholas and Patrick); sixteen nieces and nephews, and his loving companion, Joan Smith. Preceding him in death are his wife of 47 years, Barbara, his parents, and his siblings, Michael LaBarbera and Sarah Domenech.

The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation on Sunday, July 29 from 3 PM until 7 PM at the Sawyer-Fuller Funeral Home, 2125 12 Mile Road, Berkley (two blocks west of Woodward Avenue).

A memorial service will be held in Pat’s honor 11 AM on Monday, July 30 at the funeral home.

A private inurnment will take place a later date at Acacia Park Cemetery, Beverly Hills.
