Obituary for Robert Bullock

Robert E Bullock 04-14-1934

Duty, decency, reliability, honour, dignity, respect: these are all qualities that my father not only held in high esteem, but practiced while here on earth.

Robert was a serious and disciplined man, but he could never resist the opportunity to make a play when given half the chance.

Robert Bullock was born on 04/14/1934 in Brookhaven Mississippi to Harry Bullock and Gloria Smith. He was the youngest of two brothers brothers, Harold (deceased) Ameal and sister Ida (deceased).

Robert saw a lot during his lifetime:

In the south there wasn't a lot of opportunities, so Roberts family moved north to Detroit MI.

Roberts youth was spent keeping up with his older brothers and sister and eating sweets.

In 1956 he joined the Armed Forces as a rifleman and was honorably discharged as a PFC in 1962.

During this time Robert attended Eastern High School were he took general studies.

Robert ran track and field and played baseball while in school.

Robert graduated from Eastern High School with a diploma in 1961.

Robert obtained a degree in welding and engineering in 1963 for the Detroit Public Schools System.

In 1963 Robert began working as an engineer at Ford Motor Co were he retired after 30 years of service.

Around 1972 Robert met a young lady named Marilyn Presley. They never married but they had a beautiful baby boy Robert Presley.

Roberts leisure time was spent playing the lottery, poker, and billiards. One of his lottery winnings totaled over $100k.

As a father, he was often happiest when left on his own—whether it was playing cards, watching a Detroit Tigers game, or fixing one of his cars.

Robert was a straightforward man who demanded little from those around him, and who expected only the best for his only child.

Robert spent time with his 1st grandchild Dolce Presley by being one of the 1st to put a basketball in his hand.

Not one to focus in health, my dad lived with high blood pressure and survived a mild heart.

Later in life he survived a stroke, but suffered from left side paralysis.

Although in his final years, we’d all moved on to different things, that bond was never broken.

April 7th 2018, Robert passed from natural causes.

It’s difficult to imagine him not being here.

It’s strange to think that I can’t just give him a call or stop by to bring him some ice cream or cookies to eat.

Dad lived a long and happy life, and only succumbed to ill health right at the very end.

He was a tall, light-skinned, handsome character who loved to have a good time.

As we gather here to remember and commemorate his life, let's bid him farewell as we mourn the loss of a lively, dignified soul.
A soul that brought joy and fulfilment to many, and whose legacy will live on forever.
