Obituary for Charles George Gale

Gale, Charles George
1943-2018
Charles George Gale passed into eternal life on October 22, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rita (Borg) Gale and James Gale, and his infant granddaughters Miniya and Melita Levingston. He is survived by his wife of nearly 42 years, Rebecca (Thomas) Gale, his children, Christine Gale (Luttrell Levingston), Matthew Gale (Andrea), and Molly Gale, and his siblings James Gale (the late Rose Gale), Linda Morasso (Ralph), Rose D’Amato (Mario), and Diane Andreassi (Domenic), and six grandchildren.

He was born in Detroit in 1943 and graduated from Henry Ford High School in 1960. He went on to complete his undergraduate and law degrees at Wayne State University. He served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970, stationed in the Korean Peninsula. He returned to civilian life and practiced law in Southfield, Michigan, where he met his future wife and fellow attorney, Rebecca Thomas, who he married in 1976. In the 1970s, he started and built his own law practice, where he practiced until his retirement in the mid-2000s. In his later working years, he served as an Administrative Law Judge as well.

He was incredibly generous to his family and all those around him, but with himself he was incredibly frugal, never concerned with earthly possessions or status. Above all, he cherished his family, and was fiercely loyal and devoted to his wife, his children, and his grandchildren. He coached countless baseball and softball teams, helped with Boy Scout troops, and was very active in Franklin Community Church. It was extremely rare for him to miss a band concert or any of his children’s sporting events, even when they were collegiate events 12 hours away. He represented his children in traffic court for many a speeding ticket (almost always successfully). He was the type of person who would be equally happy to fix your car in the middle of the night, cut down a tree for you, chaperone a high school dance, or drive across the state to babysit a sick baby.

In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to one of Chuck’s favorite charities – Cass Community Social Services, or American Printing House for the Blind (or the charity of your choice).

Services will be held for family at Sawyer-Fuller Funeral Home on Thursday 10/25/18, with visitation from 9-11 AM, and a brief service at 11 AM.
