Obituary for Kathleen Morehead

Kathleen Morehead, age 81, died on Monday, September 17th, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She will be deeply missed by all that she touched.

Kathleen was born on April 27, 1937, in Mansfield, Ohio, but lived most of her life in Michigan and was a Berkley resident for several decades. Kathleen served one term with the United States Marines, sparking her lifelong interest in learning, dedication, fellowship, and public service. She settled on photography for her post-military vocation, owning several businesses in that field and working for Wayne State University. Some of her more accomplished works came when photographing theatre, the PBA Bowling Championships, and The 1967 Detroit Riot. In her later years, Kathleen enjoyed working in retail, including several years as a Lead Sales Representative for Michaels Art Supplies.

Kathleen loved all artistic endeavors, and made beautiful ceramic and stained-glass pieces. She enjoyed a variety of hobbies and pastimes, including gardening, animals (dogs especially), and baseball. Kathleen was a longtime crusader against animal cruelty, and adopted and raised several dogs from various shelters. Kathleen loved to laugh, eagerly engaged new adventures, and passionately lived to help anyone in need that she could, be it a lifelong friend or a new one.

Kathleen’s truest joy was spending time with family and friends, and she will be missed dearly. She is survived by her beloved daughter Kit Morehead and Kit’s partner Scott Pianowski; sisters Rosemary Spanier, Helen Ahee, and Eileen Moncman; brother Jerry Morehead; and several other relatives and friends. Kathleen was preceded in death by mother Kathrine Morehead, father Roland Morehead, and brother Raymond Morehead.

A remembrance service and inurnment will be held at 1 pm Friday, September 28th, at Christian Memorial Gardens, 521 East Hamlin Road, Rochester Hills, Michigan. Please come celebrate her life with her loved ones. The hole in our hearts will never fully heal, but the beautiful spirit and joyous memories of Kathleen will always be part of us.
