Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt – Sarah Rusher Neal – journeyed to her heavenly home peacefully on August 23, 2018 in Rochester Hills, MI.

Sarah was born on October 28, 1929 in Detroit, MI to the late Mary Keyes Rusher and John Joseph Rusher. She grew up in Royal Oak, MI, near the National Shine of the Little Flower Basilica, where she attended grade school and high school. Sarah graduated from Marygrove College in Detroit, MI with a liberal arts degree. She moved to southern Florida and then to Chicago, IL, where she met and married John (Jack) Neal and spent many happy years surrounded by family and friends. During her professional career, she held various management positions in the public relations, medical and insurance industries.

Sarah was a lover of the arts, and had a passion for horses and sailing. She was a talented designer and painter and created many beautiful ceramic pieces and metal sculptures. She found inspiration in St. Jude, to whom she turned to for the promise of hope during difficult times. She was fondly thought of by many as “Auntie Mame” – who shared her independent spirit and love of life.

Sarah was the beloved wife of her husband, John (Jack) Neal, and devoted mother to their children, John Neal, William (Bill) Neal, Linda (Tim) Sorensen, Nancy Neal Burrow; and grandmother to her seven grandchildren Paul (Martha) Neal, Tracy Neal, Joe (Stephanie) Sorensen, Meredith (Ryan) Riggs, Dana (Chris) Holloway, Lori Burrow, and Luke Burrow, and her seven great grandchildren, Kyle, Jessie and Jonny Neal, Reed Sorensen, Briella and Xander Riggs, and Cescilie Dixon.

She is preceded in death by her late husband, John, her son, John, and her daughters Linda and Nancy, her parents, John and Mary Rusher, her brother, John and her sister, Mary Suzanne. She is survived by her son, William, her loving brothers, Fred Rusher and Mike Rusher, and many loving nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 30th from 4 PM to 9 PM at the Sawyer-Fuller Funeral Home, 2125 Twelve Mile Road, Berkley, MI, with a rosary service and sharing of memories at 7 PM.

The funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, August 31st at 10 AM at the National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica, 2100 West Twelve Mile Road at Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak, MI with burial to follow at Roseland Park Cemetery, Berkley, MI. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the time of the liturgy.
