Obituary for Steve Wadha

Zuhair “Steve” Wadha, 79, passed away June 26, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary, his children; Tina (Dave Sharrak), Steven, Michael (Cristina), 7 grandchildren; David, Aryana, Christian, Ivy, Paige, Hazel, and Layne, as well as his siblings; George, Suoad Silvaya, Saad, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey.

Steve fled his birth place of Iraq as a young man, and headed to the U.S. in pursuit of freedom and the American dream. With an unmatched drive and entrepreneurial spirit, he was able to realize his goals, eventually becoming a successful business owner, with his first Black Angus Beef location in Detroit. Steve was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed taking road trips across the country with his family and spending all his spare time with them. Growing up his kids have fond memories of Sunday morning breakfast, shooting pool in their basement, and hanging out with their Dad during whatever fun outing he took them on. He was an equally involved and loving grandfather, spending time with his grandchildren on a daily basis.

Steve was an outdoorsman, which stemmed from his childhood, hunting with his father in Iraq. A member of the NRA and a thirty year member of Multi Lakes Conservation Club, he enjoyed shooting, even teaching his children and grandchildren to appreciate the sport. In his younger days, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and did so with the Shriners for many years. He loved fishing, boating, hunting, gardening, traveling, and cooking. Steve wasn’t impressed by celebrity, fame, or fortune, rather, he valued the simple things and sharing in new experiences. Steve was kind and generous. If you needed something, he gave it freely without the expectation of it being returned.

We will miss his smiling blue eyes, his ability to, without filter, ‘call it like he saw it”, and for his generous soul. Steve’s kindness and respect for others drew people in. His humble, down to earth manner made him easily relatable as evidenced by the diverse group of people that called him their friend. Steve will be remembered by the people closest to him as a family man, an honest man, and a man that always stayed true to his beliefs. He was a unique spirit and truly a one of a kind human being whose impact on those lucky enough to have known him will be forever appreciated and missed.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday June 28, 2018 at noon at Mother of God Church, 25585 Berg Road, Southfield. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 25800 West Ten Mile Road Southfield. Reception will be held at the Regency Manor, 25228 West Twelve Mile Road, Southfield immediately following the burial until 7pm.
